The declaration of the UN-ITU hosted WSIS (World Summit on the Information Society) conference in Tunisia in 2005, advocated for digital transformation of government services as essential; along with reforms in the service delivery process, to make government services equitable, transparent, and free from harassment. In line with this, the following year the Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh, fully funded by UNDP Bangladesh, initiated a project called the ‘Access to Information (a2i) Programme’. The project formally commenced in October 2006 and the Prime Minister's Office became the implementing agency.

LICT

Leveraging ICT for Growth, Employment and Governance is a project of Bangladesh Computer Council (BCC) under the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunication and Information Technology. The project has been launched in January 2013 aiming to develop a vibrant and healthy Information Technology (IT) and Information Technology-Enabled Services industry in five years by identifying the strategies, programs and investment needed for the country to leverage ICT for economic growth and competitiveness. The primary objectives of the project are to catalyze the growth of Bangladesh’s IT/ITES industry for employment creation and export diversification. The project will also cater the need of public sector modernization through development of policies, guidelines, e-government Interoperability Framework (eGIF) and capacity development of the government officials. BFIU

BFIU at a Glance

Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU) is the central agency to fight against money laundering (ML), terrorist financing (TF) and financing of proliferation (PF) of weapons of mass destruction (WMD). It is responsible for analyzing Suspicious Transaction/Activity Reports (STRs/SARs), Cash Transaction Reports (CTRs) and information related to ML, TF and PF received from reporting organizations (ROs) and other sources. Thereafter, BFIU produces intelligence and disseminate the same to the relevant competent authorities. The unit is also empowered to supervise ML, TF and PF related activities of the ROs. BFIU has also been entrusted with the responsibility of exchanging information related to ML, TF and PF with its foreign counterparts.
